Hey all,
Are there any docs / threads on this site about fitting power windows from an EF Fairmont / futura ...into a GLi? Cheers.

hey mark i'm thinking about this mod too, but the more i thought about it the more i thought geez it's kindof a big job.
motors in each door, wiring, switches, missus wanting the car back, too many beers, gettin the s**t coz something won't go right. ANYWAY i'd like the doco too.

it isn't hard, it is a big job but not a hard one. Much better if you replace the entire body loom so all the wiring is done for you. then it is just plug and play!

I've wanted power windows since my EB days - just never been able to afford it.
Whats the price for 4 genuine ford ones? Even if I could get just the regs for cheap, i'd do my own switches etc.

ftg sell the regulators for $100 each, so $400 for the regulators, then you need appropriate door trims with switches, the centre console with 4 switches, wire, solder. Could get expensive.

In terms of the wiring, I used the old loom from my NA fairlane, and transfered it over to the EL. I striped off all the tape from the fairlane loom, removed the un needed wires, re-tapped the loom and hooked it straight up to the battery (using a fuse of course). Its the sort of job that can be done in a day, if you have all of the parts needed. The hardest part is probably removing the old manual winders (getting out the rivets). The switches from the ef/el will plug straight into any e series loom, which makes it a little easier in terms of finding a loom.

What do they have in terms of burn-out protection if someone was to lean on a switch? Do the motors have clutches, or thermal circuit breakers that auto reset?
