Ok,
So i am fitting power windows to the ED, as i had some EF Ghia trims lying around. Regs are in, trims are on. But now for the fun part.
My ED never came with power windows at all, and i am having a little trouble with the tecj document. It explains what goes to where for the switches, but i dont see how the motors are attached. The doco is just switch to switch. as outlined below.

Wire Colour Description

Grey / Yellow Power to the Back Power Window Switches - (Power is Switched On/Off by Child Lock Switch)

Yellow / Dark Blue Passenger Side, Back Window, Down Line - Connect to the Back Window Switch - Console Down Line

Red / Dark Blue Passenger Side, Back Window, Up Line - Connect to the Back Window Switch - Console Up Line

Grey / Yellow (Middle) Power Supply From the Fuse Block, to the Power Window Switches. (40Amps)

Black Connect to Ground

Yellow / Violet Drivers Side, Back Window, Down Line - Connect to the Back Window Switch - Console Down Line

Red / Dark Green Drivers Side, Back Window, Up Line - Connect to the Back Window Switch - Console Up Line

Red / Black Passenger Side Front Power Window Up Line - Connect to Power Window Motor (+V Wind Up)

Yellow / Black Passenger Side Front Power Window Down Line - Connect to Power Window Motor (+V Wind Down)

Red Drivers Side Front Power Window Up Line - Connect to Power Window Motor (+V Wind Up)

Yellow Drivers Side Front Power Window Down Line - Connect to Power Window Motor (+V Wind Down)

Now the way i see it, the fronts only need two wires to go to the centre control, as the switch for it is in the centre control. the rears need 5, which i have run in the car but not hooked up yet. The doco describes how to hook up the switches but there is no mention of the motors.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Brett

Its alot easier if you can get a hold of the cabin loom which will then be plug and play. Im not sure what you mean by how to connect the motors as ive done the conversion on my EF and i followed that Docu.

Im not sure what your asking but if you look just underneath the center console wiring colour/Descripton under the heading ""Back Door Power Window Switches""

It says there:
"You will need to make 5 Connections to the Back Door Power window switches for each door.
This includes 3 wires from the Centre Console Power Window Switches, and 2 Wires from the Doors Power Window Motor. "

So from the switches you connect to the motors.

Hope that helps.

Ok, this may help.

Image

As I see it you need to run three wires from the master switch to each rear door and two wires from the rear regulators, adding up to five wires at the swtich.

I hope you are soldering everything. Or at least using crimp connectors and insulation tape.

Well done Ben - I must be psychic.

Brett: I assume the ED is a POV GLI, i.e. no Cruise or ABS.

I agree with the looms - you can go to pick n payless and get the looms from any EB-ED futura/fairmont or equivalent fairlane or LTD.
Would be the easiest way to go IMO.

This is all very interesting.
I just bought an EB Fairmont and it doesn't have power windows either, but it does have all the other fairmont options??? Cruise control, high series cluster etc etc etc.
I will be doing this as well with my lane bits, so keep on with the info sharing :D
BTW, Good luck with the conversion Brett.
Mick

Yep no cruise and no ABS. Ok i get it now, but what i need next and this is going to sound stupid, but which is up and down on the reg, IE how does it ground. It only has 2 wires, for example the rear d/s is Blue and Red from the reg. I am starting on this side and working forward for the wiring. And yes Ben, soldered, different colour wires and heat shrink, you would be impressed

Haha jees, Whats with the questions. Its easy, to find out which way goes up/down. get one wire on 12+ and the other wire negative. and just switch to make it go down or up. :P

Figs 11/12/13 from http://www.fordmods.com/forums/Power-Wi ... l-d81.html will help you understand how the switching happens.

Yep as indicated by all the previous posters, each wire is the postive and the negative depending on which way round you connect them.

And yes, mate, very impressed that you used a wire colour other than black.

Alright. I got it sussed now. The tech docu is a little confusing. But here is how i did it.
The rear motors run to the switches in the rear, then 3 wires from the switches run to the centre console. The fronts only need 2 wires to the centre console. Wire them up as per the doco and all is good. Now to get another rear passenger reg and both fronts and she will be fine. Only problem with pick and payless is that when you get parts you cant be sure they work. The passenger rear motor makes noise, but doesnt hold the window up or move it up or down
Well worth the effort though.
Brett
