I have recently done this mod. I didnt cut any of the roof lining out but i still have the gap. I am going to put something in there to stop the light getting out of the bottom of the fitting though.

You do have to cut out some of the headlining to make the light fit properly.
Thanks A stanley knife is used to cut out the required area to make the light fit, Just be careful not to cut out too much. Also would be a good idea to get a stapler to staple the fabric onto the headliner as the the foam used to hold the fabric is shot by this stage of the game. I stapled the fabric around the hole to stop the fabric from comming off the liner.

Hi, by mid series interior light, do you mean the light with two small map lights at the front? If so then, yes you do have to cut out a small piece of the roof trim at the front, but be very careful, one slip and your roof trim is rats. You will also have to add a extra wire or a loom from a Futura or Fairmont, this plugs in to the main loom behine the rear seat side section on the right hand side. This is were the power comes from for the map lights to work, but to do this you will have to remove the roof trim. I did this as I had the roof trim already out, hope this is of some help. Regards Rod.

Thanks for the help guys, the extra wire?,I just connected both the 12v wires from the interior light to the 12v wire in the headlining and neg to neg and everything works fine,no need for extra wire.
Thanks. |

I realise this - I actually posted it for the benefit of those who want to do the same as you but haven't seen that thread . . . .

LOL, to be honest I fail to see the appeal of the map lights myself. I have them fitted stock in my Fairmont and almost never use them. They're far too dull and pointed in completely the wrong directions to be of any real use. But that's just me

I agree with you, I've only got them in my wagon because it's standard fit. The dome light with it's "pearl" type cover kills a lot of the light also. Something similar to the overhead lights you see in passenger jets would be more useful.
