Hello everyone,

I have noticed the rear door windows of the left and right side have dropped on occassions and I'd like to know if this is common. If not a common problem then what might be the cause as I'd like to fix this problem.

My vehicle is an AUII Forte apparently, June 2000.

The dropping of windows is caused by going over bumps and potholes, (which I try to avoid).

The windows are manually operated , not electrical.

If anyone can provide me with advice, I'd greatfully appreciate it.

Cheers, Peter

I cant say that I've heard of this problem before, but i would imagine that either the windows have come free of the mechanism, or the mechanism itself might be seriously worn. I would have my money on the glass being loose from the machanism, as it would take a hell of a lot of up and down window action in the rear to wear the mechanism to the point that bumps cause it to lower the windows. Can you pull the glass up and down without the winder? If so then the glass has come loose, it may just be some plastic clips or some sealant glue not sure? Any way hope this may have helped. Good luck.

Jeremy BA,

Thanks for getting back to me. I never thought of that possibility i.e glass becoming loose.

I always use the window winder to wind the thing up, I'll check it later today and see if it moves easily, as you said, it could be the mechanism worn.

I'll let you know later today.

Cheers

Jeremy BA,

I tested the left and right windoes this afternoon. I wound the window down and tried to pull it up and seemed firm.

I tried again applying more force and did notice the window slid up and down probably by a few millimetres and noticed the window winder handle being jerkey i.e. noticing the winder jumping a touch.

I don't know if that's normal or an indication the winder mechanism is worn and in need of replacement.

Hmmmm, thats a strange one. I wouldnt think a few "mm" would be more than the standard movement and in any case hitting a bump shouldnt open a window. The only thing I'm thinking is when your windows are closed, what position are the winders at? (eg: 12, 9 or 3 oclock position?) I'm thinking maybe if the winder is at anything other than 12 or 6 O'clock then maybe the weight of the winder handle being of set is helping the window unwind. You could try to reposition the handle to 12 or 6 and see if at helps.

Jeremy BA,

Yep, its and odd one for sure.

Yes, I'll have a look at the position of the handle I'd never would have thought of the winder handle being offset. All things are possible I guess.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Cheers
