I am looking at putting gas struts on the rear window in my Xr6 AUII ute or a limo style window. Either or, for listening to my stereo in the tray while camping/use for out door cinema, etc.
If anyone has done a modification like this I would very much like to gear about it, or anything of the like really...

Has no one tried/wanted to do this? Surely someone must have at least an idea?

For the cost it would be to set something like that up it would be better to put in a sunroof and or mount speakers in the tray.
Maybe try contacting a Limo building place???

There used to be a guy in sydney that done 'american style' rear window conversions in utes. The sliding style that locks. They don't open a great deal though.

That's about the extent I've seen on custom rear glass.

Yeah, i thought about the sliding design but wasn't really what I was looking for... I had a poke around at some custom car places and they either don't do it or it's an absolute MINT! so I'm thinking that the idea of a sunroof is a much better value for money...
I am yet to see anyone with the mods I want... So don't hold your breath guys... Lol

Yeah honestly mate strongly recommend the speaker in tray, simplest and at the end best clearest results.

Well yeah I still want to, but struggling to find out who would help me out with making a custom tray structure... I want to put in a custom storage unit, speakers and a few other little things that would make for a nice trip to Bathurst...

yeah i got a double swag for christmas last year and thats a perfect fit in a falcon tub :) very good for outdoor cinemas btw...

yeah thats why i want a custom set of draws made up for the tray, so you lay on top of that. this provides storage, plus you dont need to unpack the ute every time you want to lay in the back.

and yeah, this is my second ute and i have noticed people like to take a peak in the back... plus put rubbish in there. but yeah, i hope to get a lockable hard cover for it..

trundle trays are good. Same thing though, the better they are the more you pay. Cheaper ones don't slide out as far or carry as much weight.

I'd kick someone in the teeth if I caught them using my tray as a garbage bin. Then again I don't have sides so it's not really a drama :P

yeah, i found a good set of twin draws that slid out to around 1.5m (not sure about weight held though) but they were about $2,400. so yeah you definitely get what you pay for...

its amazing the sh*t i have found in the back of my ute, cardboard boxes full of sh*t, a passed out friend... and oddly enough a kids trike... so yeah utes with no covers are not good around curbside collection time...
