Hi there,

You'll need to pull the door skins off to see what is wrong. Please see this doco to help:

{DESCRIPTION}

To suddenly drop like that, it is unlikely the two 10mm bolts that hold the window in place to the motor came out unless someone in the past undid them but didn't tighten them all the way. It's still unlike though.

Two two stand out possibilites are that the plastic clip that holds the two cables together wore out and separated, or that the actual cable snapped (also rare). The plastic clip is not serviceable so what you'll need to do is take out the whole window motor assembly out (required dremel/grinding) held in by pop rivets, then replace them with some working ones from the wreckers.

Firstly though, if you haven't pulled off the door trims before, that is an exercise on it's own so take your time then let us know what you see. Good Luck.

remove door trim, un bolt window from reg.
there will be 3 rivets holding it on, you need to use a punch knock out the center, then drill out the rivets.
change the window reg.either get a few rivets of suitable size, or a few bolts and nuts.
maybe use rivnuts in the regs I always want to but never bother.

Hi ive taken both skins off only took like 5-10 mins each the front ones are the real pains though
i will have to take another look at what is wrong but i do believe that the motor is working on one due to the cable moving up and down but i do not think it is snapped just come unclipped from where it is suppose to sit? not sure though as it is very hard to tell what is wrong with it due to the door frame being in the way.
the other door on the other hand i do believe the motor has died due to it basicly doign nothing and making no noise what so ever, but i was trying to pull the window up when it suddenly came unstuck and then would not stay up so i believe this might have soemthign to do with it?

thanks for your help so far guys

Hey Mate,

Something similar happened in my car, the window is siliconed onto two cups at the very bottom and basically the silicone had lost its stick. So the frame that actually moved the window up and down was no longer attached to the window and thus the window was stuck in the up position. If thats the problem remove the olds silicone from the window and cups and get some new stuff :). Sicaflex is good s**t, expensive, But sooooooooooooooooooo sticky.

Hope this helps mate,

it's most likely the cable, broken out the plastic it clps into, it's not a servicable thing the reg needs replacing, not sure on the other side, if you can seperate the motor.
facer one the cable snapping from the clip is a common problem, think I've done 3 on my ef, atleast 1 i think 2 on my moms au, luckly oe on my dads au.
au same cable problem but different reg.

the plastic slips are an au- onwards thing, due to a new setup.
