Hi guys

I have recently replaced my steering wheel on my LTD but it does not have the ability to house the cruise control buttons. Has anyone tried to remotely fit these buttons in the centre consol for example and patch into the wiring loom in the steering column?

Any help would be appreciated.

There are threads on here about it...

BenJ done it in his car... Fitted an after market steering wheel and set the buttons up behind the wheel...

ford-interior-f14/benj-s-interior-mods-now-with-el-dash-and-console-t60443-1.html

If you wanted to put them in your centre console it would be easy because the module is mount under the console... So you could easily tap into the wires at it... Make up your own switches in that case... Use toggles (like BenJ's) or rockers and add the resistors and you're set...

Not a hard task at all...

Whatever works though...

Cheers,
Tim

Yep, as TimmyA said, and I have re done it again using momentary buttons on a different wheel too.

Cheers

Did you look for a factory Cruise Momo wheel? that would be the easiest way to do it!

My preference is in the consol as the wheel I have on is the autotechnica wooden rim with chrome spokes with holes which would make it very hard to hide the mod. (I was initially going to do the same as BenJ) I was thinking of mounting the existing buttons from the wheel into a hand made timber panel that surrounds the gear shift. Is it hard to know work out what wires to tap into the module?

Only two wires are used, with various resistor values being used to tell the cruise module what function you want.

The other is earth via the horn.

Cheers

Hey Buddy...

We'll support your theory... Be sure to share pics and info of the work you carry out in here because it may help others out too...

This should give you a fair idea...

If you use the factory switches then you're home and hosed...

Join the brown wires that plugged into wheel together and join to black at the module... (the horn one can just be left out seeing as it wont be used)

Join the blue wires and join to orange w/ yellow at the module

Yellow wire... becomes blue as it gets to the horn relay... You notice power runs into the relay coil and out to the switch... So when you hit the horn it grounds the yellow wire and pulls the relay in... When you press the on button it joins the yellow wire to the sense wire (blue on the switches) and sends 12V to the module...

Basically what I am saying is they used the horn wire to get 12V from because it meant they only need 3 rings in the boss instead of 4 to run another power wire up the switches...

As such you can use any power source from the car for this wire... Doesn't have to be the horn... So I'd use the module power wire... Which is green w/ red...

So... Black to black... Blue to orange w/ yellow... Yellow to red w/ green...

It has been done before.

When researching my cruise button mod, I found on car with them in the console, another with them mounted in the instrument cluster surround, and Troyman has/had his mounted on steering column shroud.

Good luck, and show us some pics when you are done.

Cheers
BenJ
