Hey Guys
I think i have a leaf in my aircon filter and i was told its behind the glove box which needs to be removed. I am going to give this ago on the weekend and i was just wondering whats actually involved. Is it just held in with some pins are the back or is screwed somewhere etc? To be honest i havnt looked at it closely so just wondering if someone can give me some ideas. Most appreciate the help. Cheers Phil

getting it off isn't the problem, it's getting it back on if you disconnect the little plastic strut thats also connected to it. To this day the one in my mont isn't hooked up lol doesn't make alot of difference. I dunno how they assembled it at the factory...
You will be surprised how much crap is in the filter mesh (if theres no filter installed) if it hasn't been checked. Be warned though, I only got a ticking noise from my fan after changing the mesh for a carbon filter, I must've dropped a leaf into the fan. Makes it hard not to when it's been unchanged for a long time. Anyway it's usually something in the fan rather than the filter if it's noisy. If there is a flow restriction chances are it could be a blocked filter. Some have the mesh some have a filter.

Hmmm ok thanks very much for the info mate, the flow is all good its just noisy so i think i will clean the filter and give it a good vacuum in there. Thanks for the tip on the plastic strut ill see if i can get away with not removing it

Little plastic strut is a high series thing... So chances are he wouldn't have it. But I do agree, it is the biggested fukn c$%Nt of a thing to get back off and on. I would rather pull the engine or IRS on by BF than have to change the pollen filter.
And its just a matter of opening the glovebox, push the stopper clip at the top of the glovebox under the dash so it falls forward... Then just pull towards your face and it will unclip from the hinges. |

Ahh excellent, yeah mine wouldnt have a high series as its only a SR (based on XT) thanks for the info mate, i might take some pics tomorrow of the filter to see how bad it is

If its never been changed, or optioned at the original purchase, there wouldn't be a filter in there.
It's just a plastic tray with fly wire mesh over it to stop s**t dropping into the fan. Might be worth visiting supercrap and replacing the mesh with a Ryco carbon filter. Makes the cabin a nicer place to be. They are around $50. |

Trust me, that pin to remove the piston is far far far far far f**k harder than that page lets on.

Ahhaha thanks mate, i really just want to stop the noise the fan is making. I will give the mesh a clean and thats about it

so mines a monty glovebox knocked down to an xt spec one
I'm pretty sure it was arm79 that made me feel a little less alone when I couldn't get mine back on, it nearly reduced me to tears at the time lol. Filter itself easy to change but like I said, I had NO noise until I changed the filter from the flyscreen job to a carbon one. It's hard to get a vac down into where the fan is, which is where all the excess crap falls when you take a filter out that hasn't been changed for a while.

ahh ok, well i wasnt planning on changing the filter, just try and get the vac down to the fan to suck out whatever is making the noise

I didnt give the pollen filter a second thought until I was in Repco getting oil and filters to do a service.....
The guy asks if i want a pollen filter?.....so I say....yeah, what the hell, chuck one in....50000klms and never changed it..... Getting the glovebox in and out is a piece of piss....but when I saw the filter.....wow....chock a block full of crud..... When you pull it out all the rubbish falls into the heater fan box!! I dragged out the missus vaccy cleaner but you cant get the nozzle in there so I duct-taped a bit of smaller hose (about 3/4 in) to the nozzle and stuck it into the heater box to suck all the junk out. All up, around 20 mins of work and it smells much fresher now...... |

Thanks alot mate, good idea with the vacuum cleaner as that is the whole purpose to get the s**t out of the fan and stop it making a noise

that would be the best bet. as once it is clean regular cleaning makes it more trouble free. I paid the extra for the carbon filter but unless you change them regularly they don't work. They are meant to cut down odour from outside the cabin which they do fine for about a month. Then what little carbon is in them is de-activated and they just work as a filter. And they aren't cheap. I'd just buy a regular and keep it clean, it's still a big difference to the wire mesh unit. They're a good thing, even better if you don't smoke.
