I've got an ED falcon and the central locking system is screwing up. I think it's got something to do with the door locking mechanisms because you can sometime fiddle with them and the locking works like a charm. At the moment the car locks sometime when you use the key in the drivers side door (when you can the remote also works). Most of the time however you cna only lock the vehicle when you use the key in the passenger side door.
I want to get the lock mechanism out of the drivers side door to clean it (the car is from the country and pretty dusty) as I think this may fix the problem. How do you get the lock out. I can't get it out because the rods which operate the mechanism get in the way. |

You will need to take the rods off first. You may also be able to remove the window channel to get more room.

How do you get the rods off, you need to turn and twist them but there isn't room. I haen't figuredout how to get the window channel out yet but I can't see there being enough room even with it removed.

Ok, use a pair of pliers to slightly bend the door lock arm and remove the central locking motor. Then remove the door handle as the door lock barrel sits under the exterior door handle.
Take the U clip off as this slides off and then remove the door lock barrel from the snippet rod. Re-fit is a reversal of what I just said - f$%* I am p****d.

I had a problem like this with the ef. The passenger door actuator was tight as a nuns C***. This meant the locking motor didnt lock the door. I use a bit of WD40 in the lock and now its all good. Give that a go first.

I've tried the good old WD40 to no avail. I think the only thing for it is to completely remove the thing and clean it properly. It was previously a country car so there's dust everywhere, I think it's gotten into the actuator and that's whats causing the problems.
EDIT: Well I removed the whole lock assembly (Way easier then I thought it would be) cleaned out the crap and sprayed the moving bits with WD40 and stuck the whole thing back in and the central locking is still stuffing about. Now that I think about it seems that the problem isnt in the lock mechanism but in the motor which locks and unlock the mechanism. You push it down manually and it resets itself so there seems to be a problem there, not in the lock itself. |

if the EF door motors are the same i have a set of 4 here but i cant remember if there is a loom on the end or not cause i have dont the central lock conversion.

Apparently the ED needs series 1 motors or something like that, thats what the guy at Ford said when I took it in to have it looked at.
