I am looking to get replacement needles for my cluster, but I was just out at the wreckers playing around with one there so I can practise.

Taking the needles off is easy, of course, just pull it straight off, but putting them back on worries me abit, because instrument needles are such delicate and inportant part of a cluster and a car to give you back the correct information.

Now, at the wreckers I pulled it off, and then put them back on a few times, now I realised that by taking note of where the needle originally sat you can put it back to that same area, but putting the needle back on, but higher than it was, and move the needle (you can feel the tension) to where it sat originally. I played around with the needle by moving it, and letting it dropped and it went back to the position I put it at.

Is what I have done correct? Will it not screw up everything?

I want to clear this up before I start dismantling my dash and f**k around wtih it haha.

Take a photo of your dash before you remove the needles, then when putting new ones one, make sure they go on the same way.

I've done several clusters (two of mine, and a few others), never had any problems.

So you are saying when you press the needle in, if it isn't in it's original position it must be popped off and pushed in again, and keep trying that?

That, or is my way of putting it on just above to where it was originally, and move it to it's original location will work as well?

You shouldn't be moving it as you push it on. But if it rests back in it's right spot, that's right.

they are a lot more rugged than what you think. destroying it with force is pretty difficult, so give it heaps!

Yeah they are tough little things. I found that out today when I was playing with a dash at the wreckers.

But I was only worried about the calibration. I didn't want the needles to be sticking somewhere else just because I screwed up putting the back on.
