does anyone know if there is a aftermarket doorlock / actuator for the au/ba falcons. The doorlock actuator keeps snapping because ford decided to make the actuator totally out of plastic anyway just want to know if there is a better option for replacement than more plastic

Perhaps fabricate one out of metal?

sorry don't have a pic but the smartsheild system on the BA's and AU's aren't the same as the other modelsthe door lock is directly attached to the actuator which is just a black box. Its the silly plastic gears inside that snap

Well, if you can get me a few pics, i'll have a look into finding a mechanical solution for you. It would involve pulling apart the lock mechanism though, so I hope you are mechanically minded.

You might even get away with just adding a current limiting resister in series with the motor to take away some of the torque of it.

The AU ones are fairly prone to failure once they're a few years old.
Generally it's the same plastic gear that goes. I have heard of a few people actually gluing these succesfully though. Ford upgraded the mechanism with I think the BF, and sell the actuator and the adaptor loom for AU for around $200 or so. |

With all the hassel that goes on, I got to ask is any upgrade worth it. I only say this because you need to be unlucky for the things to break all the time.
On my taxis they do not break nearly as much as some of you guys come on here thinks so! I know fraud charge an arm and a leg, but once you use the upgraded one, there should not be a problem for a while. Even if it's not a BA/F one, you are still going to get at least 4 - 5 years use out of it. Also consider this, there better than the EF/L ones!

All the actuators on my 96 EF have "TSB 98" written on them in red pen, so I gather they started to stuff up after just two years of use so they decided to replace them all?

The EF's had cycling issues - TSB 98 means that Ford released a service bulletin to their dealers to help diagnose and repair the problem. Depending on the contents of that TSB they have either been repaired or replaced (I'd guess replaced) |

As private9 has said, they were upgraded with the BF. They now are made from die cast I think. No more problems with my BA since I went to BF ones.
