i'm sure ive seen this briefly mentioned before, but i was wondering if anyone has actually fixed the windows once they are making this grinding sound when going up/down.

the motor "seems" to be working fine, its not going slow or anything, just makes that awful sound on 2 of my windows now. i think its a typical ford thing, the old mans toyota and a mates calais both have slowed down greatly so you know the motor is on the way out, but neither have this sound.

sounds like its grinding up/down on something. no idea where to start though and im not too keen on replacing the systems just yet.

any help would be great. (nc fairlane)

Both passenger side windows in my ef fairmont are doing this at the moment. The rear always did it ( and stops half way) but now since winter has hit the front is doing it now. I didnt care about the rear cause noone usually sits in the back but now the front is i wanna get it fixed before it dies.

pretty much the only way is to get yourself new regulators! try a silicon spray down the runners - it might extend the life a little, but i doubt it - sorry to be the bearer of bad news! :(

i got one from ford for 180, but they are an absolute b**ch to change.. not hard just annoyingly fiddly. i replaced my drivers one cause it died spectacularly (window dropped in hurry, glad it didn't break!). about a week later, a rear one started jamming, so i just disconnected it to stop my mates using it :P

Hi all,

Im new here...just recently got my fairmont complete with crappy rear window regs (same crunching snapping noise as you try to bring them up). SSS auto parts just told me that they're $110 for aftermarket regs but out of stock and none currently on order...
I took the left side apart...the cable looks pretty well f@3ked as well as the little crappy plastic wheel the cable wraps around. Id be in on a pair for $90 each if you can get em to melb?
