afaik a street cage is allowed as long as its fully padded and does not obstruct driver or pasengers enty or exit from vehicle..

i had one in my chrysler centura a few years ago and never had any issues with the legal side of things..
but i guess the laws might of changed since then..

yeah i am sure this is the case.... as long as it don't interfere with getting in or out of the car, no obstruction to airbags or any life saving items etc and must be padded with 2inch thick foam.

You can get 4 point legal but has to be engineered as a 2 seater car.

Ok cool, thanks for the advise guys.
Osborn, im not sure if you remember but about 2 or 3 years ago there was a show on tv with all these shocking L platers that couldn't get there licence and they where crashing cars left right and centre? and the whole point of the show was to teach them to drive?
Well some of the cars ended up at pick and payless at blacktown. One of them was an EA which had the steel half cage in it (for safty i presume) so i asked the guy how much he wanted for it? He said "you have already paid for it haven't you  " i said "no :? " he said "yes you did :x " i said "oh yeah thats right i did  " so i scored it for nothing
im still not sure if ill fit it though, being steel its quite heavy.

Does it have to be a certain minimum distance from the head when seated? 3"?

To not obstruct forward vision it basically has to sit behind the front A-pillar, so you'd need to make sure the fitter does this.

Enjoy the improved chassis rigidity! If its done right better handling and lower NVH!

Are you sure about it having to be 2"? I don't think so, thats pretty thick, it takes a 1.5" or 1.75" OD steel tube to a total of 5.5" or 5.75" thick, which won't have much chance of passing the head along the roof turret.

Getting it past the head with enough clearance is damn hard enough even with 1" thick foam, and probably can't be done in quite a number of modern cars.
