Just thought I'd post this, might inspire others with different ideas.
But anyway I had an old scanner lying around so I stripped it down to see if anything usefull was in there and I found that the flouro light in it had its own little powersupply board which was fed with (you guessed it) 12v.
The light was in a nice plastic holder with a couple of screw holes so it was piss easy to whack in the boot, puts out a fantastic white light that s**t all over the incandescent and uses half the power to boot.. :lol:
I got the scanner from a PC repair tech mate who was gonna throw 'em but I've seen them on the sidewalk when the council has its hard rubbish collection.. Happy Modding!! 8-)

i was thinking of fitting a scanning LED light setup into my rear spoiler (since half of my LED's in there have died)

Hmmm I've got the led's in the rear window and I think theres enough room to fit one of these in there {DESCRIPTION}
but that kit isn't the one at Jaycar, looks like I'll have to make my own PCB and leave out the medley bits :roll: don't know how you would go getting it into your spoiler????

I like it also, thats why I just went and did this 8-)

Was quick and easy, just ripped apart my old scanner that no one can get a power supply for, and made the neon light useful.

So much more brightness its not funny, even during day light, can't wait to give it a try tonite. Would have come is useful 2 days ago though wen I blew a tyre at 11 at night... Ah well, thats the way things go.

Thanks for the idea mate.

For those without (dead) scanners. It's just a cold cathode fluro as available from jaycar in either bare or kit form.

I have two of those under the front seats, lights up the front and rear footwells beautifully.

Might have to do the boot now.

for those of u who have a bit of electronics confidence and wanna save a little money, try these guys http://www.pccasegear.com.au/category5_1.htm

i used to use them wen i was into modding my pc case, and used the scanners cathode with the kit that i got from them. had to make a few adjustments but know itll all run without a problem coz the pc's power supply is a 12V DC just like a car battery

the kit has 2 plugs aswel, so if i really want i can connect my blue or green cathode too!!! :shock: (think ill pass on that one...)
