I have a piece of plastic trim that is held to the car with two self tapping screws. These screws have become loose and I can't get them to tighten. Without getting larger diameter screws is there some way to get the screws to pull tight again ?

Sorry, the part is around the rear quarter window on the rear door of an EB Fairmont Ghia. It is plastic trim as I said attached to body metal - hollow.

Just use bigger screws, same thing has happened in my NA Fairlane. Have started to notice at least one on my NL Fairlanes rear doors. Its just one of those things I guess.

Those screws only tighten once, and thats when they do it at the factory, after that they'll never re-tighten because the screws they use just strip the metal.
Im going to try and use something similar like the screw holes in the door for the door trim. Plastic clips where the screws can actually tighten into rather than just strip the door metal. Only other idea is to araldite the hole then drill it out at a slightly smaller diameter then re-screw.

had the exact same problem on my EL, had a rattle from the door and the srews were also stripped. didnt wanna use larger screws with different heads so i just applied a small amount of silastic behind the cover where the screws fix and put it back on. no rattles since.

OK knowing that the car is an EB Fairmont are there only the three screws holding this piece of plastic in place or are there clips or something else hidden holding it onto the window frame ????

wrap your screws in elec tape then do em up that will help them hold tight!!!

Yeah the trims in my EF are the same. Screws keep turning. But you guys have given me ideas also. How about that plastic white stringy stuff the plumbers use on threads for metal pipes, wrap that s**t around the screw threads..
