I am 6'5".
I got in an AU once and the B-pillar was about 20mm from the side of my head, and my forward vision in the upper right quadrant consisted of an a-pillar instead of road. A while ago i read that the BA has the same turret as the AU, but they shifted the seat, lowering it and moving it inboard. I sat in a BA XT the other day to see for myself, and while headroom and visibility were okay, the seat seemed too far to the left making it out of alignment with the rest of the interior, plus the seat base seemed too narrow. Perhaps they also narrowed the seat to get people further away from the b-pillar and the a-pillar visibility problem? Is there a solution?

Sorry I have no solution, but I believe I have the answer to your question regarding seating being further to the left. I believe it is so to accomodate side curtain airbags, but that's just a guess. I have a work colleague who is 6'5" who drives a TX5...damn he looks cramped in there.

What about the seats in the other BA (or BF?) models, are any of them more generous in the base width?
Since i don't live in or near a city i can't just scoot down 'auto alley' and check this out for myself. I briefly owned a yamaha gn250(?) and someone said i must have looked like a preying mantis on the thing. Thankfully a truck drove over it . . . while it was parked . . . and i got paid out and got a KLR250 instead, which was an excellent bike.

Look how offset the seat is compared to the steering wheel. Photo's can be deceiving . . . but . . . it looks really bad.

Strange you have this problem, I am also 6'5" and a large guy 120kg + and I own an AUI XR6 and I love the seating in it yet, the BA's I drive during the day feel so awkward compared to my AU. I have a callous on my right knee from the bloody armrest on the BA and It gives me backache.
Even though there is electric adjustment for the BA it still is one of the worst seats I have ever sat in. Admittedly the BA is a ute but it is crappy seating. My AU has vertical lift adjustment too. |

I can tell you from experiece the premium seating in the BF's are good for tall guys (me included).
This is from the F6 though

The AU i sat in was a fairmont with lift adjustment, the only problems i had was with the b-pillar being scarily close and the a-pillar obscuration. I'm surprised you don't have that problem. I sat in a BA XT, and i imagine the seat is similar or exactly the same the one in your work ute. I agree, the seat felt horrible for me, particularly too narrow in the base, and it seemed like it may have collapsed a bit on the right hand side even though the car hadn't done many kays. I also noticed the interior plastic seemed cheap and flimsy compared to my EL fairmont.

Sorry I have no solution, but I believe I have the answer to your question regarding seating being further to the left. I believe it is so to accomodate side curtain airbags, but that's just a guess. Do some BA models have side airbags? I would have guessed they first came with the FG? They widened the turret on the FG, from memory some said in order to accomodate the side airbags, but really i think it was because they got it badly wrong with the AU, too much tumblehome, and i imagine they weren't in a financial position to tool up for a new turret until the existing one had seen a few years service.

I'm only 6'3", and I have the same problem in our AU XR6. I see alot of the A pillar and roof. Solution is to recline more.
In our EF Ghia, I don't have this problem. I think alot of it is how the roof turret curls down into the window space on the AU/BA/BF. |

ive got a ba xls ute and the seats are great its more comfy than our au .and my seats are not off set it sits right in front of the wheel ?

im just about 2m and in my eb i have the seat slid right back so my legs aren't in the dash and have it reclined back a little and i still see a heap of roof and i also see alot of A pillar. but the worst thing about it is having to reach for 1st, 3rd and 5th.
