it does?

i had a hissing sound on the passenger side...ended up with a leeking vacuum pump thingy that levers the foot well thingy-ma-bob. I don't think hissing is good.

Or do you mean the sun load sensor, which is right up the very front of the dash near the windscreen (a little white dome).

It detects how much sunlight in entering the car allowing the ACC to adjust the aircon and air vents to cope.

That's the one i was asking about. Maybe I do have a vacuum leak. Is it a big job to get to the heater stuff in the dash. Is there already something on here about how to get to it? :?

My gregories mentions something about a cabin air sniffer motor. I assume it pulls some of the hot dash air in to the sensor in the climate control for better dash temp accuracy. There is also a light/sun sensor.

my climate control definitely has a little pump in it.
Funny there is a dash cover on the car and I havent taken it off yet to see if there is a sun sensor.
In my wifes work Avalon there is a sun sensor for automatic headlights... when you drive under a bridge the lights com on for a second. LOL

The EF/EL's use engine vacuum to pass air over the sensor, if you have a leak, check the connector on the back of the dash unit, and the other end of the hose behind the glovebox(may be a bit hard to get to). The hose has a foam covering, so it won't be hard to find it.

Not quite, the little hole at the bottom of the CC unit itself, is where it 'sucks' it's air from. There's a little thermistor directly behind it that reads the cabin temperature.
