Hey guys, does anyone know if there is a mod that can shorten the gear stick?
I know autotechnica do a short shifter/stick in one, and i think mal wood do a shortened one aswell? are there any other options? |

EF/EL stick you can shorten it by like 15-20mm, cut new thread as far down as you can, then chop extra length, make sure not to cut too much or too little or your shifter will be loose or not straight.

Option 1 Site Sponser - But not currently available... im after one so if we could get a few people after them they could go back into production quicker...?
http://www.norcom.net.au/~bpt/gear%20lever%20short%20throw%20turrets.htm Option 2 AU T3 Shifter - Still available from ford PN ....TAU3 7C305 A. Quote: here are some pics of the difference between the two levers, as you can see there is quite a difference.
pics were stolen from TICKFORD TAS's build thread, hope he doesn't mind.

I just removed my factory stick, screwed the knob off it (to keep it out of harm's way) and got a machinist to cut a couple inches or so out of it and weld it back together - this was to retain the original thread and also quickly chopping out a bit and welding it back together was actually quicker / easier than redoing the thread. Machinist is a mate so it only cost $20 - don't know what full commercial rate would be but the whole job took him about 20 minutes.
A WORD OF CAUTION!! A few days after doing this mod my car started jumping out of first - real bad when in the middle of hard takeoff!!! It rapidly became so bad I had to hold the stick in first. I thought the worst and started thinking about getting the box repaired then I realised what was happening - my factory rubber boot wasn't coping with the shorter stick and backloading against it enough in first gear position to kick it out of gear! Removing the boot fixed the problem - now I need to track down a leather or fabric one.... Also, shifting is fine and MUCH MUCH better.
