well guys just to update, we finally got all the components (plus extras to be safe) and wwe decided to go for the LED bulbs.

Leds from jaycar 10mm Blue 4500mcd were $1.95 each
Heat shrink was $1.55 for 1.2m of 5mm
resistors were $0.38c each (pk 8)
and the blue LED bulbs were $2 each (pack 10 for $20)

All up came to about $55 ! not too bad :D
we'll post pics when we do it! (Sunday 27th)

Just re-did the led globes (narva) as 2 died on me after 11months....

I put 1 red led globe in this time so the tacho changes colour as it gets to red line. I also sprayed the cluster faceplate metalic silver and now it reflects light and helps add to the overall brightness...

I cant get the insert image thing to work so i just put the pic in my gallery...sorry guyz

kk well I chucked those NARVA globes in last night. Took a bit of fiddling as if one of them isn't making correct contact then a whole bunch of them don't light up, but got there in the end. :D

Instrument Cluster
Trip Computer
Whole dash

The pics don't really do it justice, the cluster is way bright IRL, easily brighter than the old globes. :) And I also changed the trip meter LCD to red aswell which you can't really see but yeah.. :D

I have a problem with the trip computer though, the o/speed and reset buttons light up fine but the light doesn't reach the search button for some reason.. dunno what I can do to fix that though.. so am thinking of maybe just sticking with white buttons instead of blue if I can't find a workaround so if anyone has any ideas.. bring it on ! :D

Anyway yeah there you guys go.. that's all the pics I took but wasn't too difficult.. the mod docos in here do a great job of describing how to do it. :)

Cheers guys !

EDIT: awesome speeling

Here's a pic of the stuff I used. Was probably about $2.00 from newsagent, and I used 2 layers of this to get mine looking how it is. I know that it is red but it also comes in blue and I'd say it would turn out pretty much the same except blue.. (duh) :D

So maybe give that a go man. Using this it turned out brighter than it was normally so not too bad I thought..

Hope that helps :)

try using a Blue LED behind it.. Much brighter and they direct the light a lot better!

Hmmm...

Firstly looks good char, very nice work.

I got a question about the trip computer though. Mine jsut lights up the numbers, not the buttons or the words on the other side. I onyl hav one globe right behind the numbers and not another one. Does this other globe power the words and buttons? Also is that just tissue paper you used? I used memo notes and plastic folder cover but they arent as good as I thought.

Very nice looking though mate.

Thanks dude. :D

Yeah the other globe lights up the writing on the buttons, it travels down this fancy clear plastic thingo and runs along the bottom where the buttons are. :) I chucked one of those LEDs in there and it only lights up the first 2 buttons, doesn't make it to the end, so have to fix that up sometime !

Maybe try some of this glossy paper stuff that I used.. it's pretty thin so light goes through it pretty easily. :)

EDIT: oh it doesn't even feel like it is paper hey.. it is more plasticy sorta stuff but really thin.. it's strange but it works. :D

Hope that helps..
