I'm not having much luck in Audio with this question, so I'll try here
I'm about to experiment with Flashtac, by putting it on the inside of the doors. I've compared it with Dynomat, and have found the Bunnings sourced, roofing material to be almost identical. The only problem I have is the rust proofing on the inside of the doors. There is a wide band of greasy, water proof substance at the bottom of each door, behind the window regs. I'm a bit worried about removing it. Should I Flashtac over it, remove it first then Flashtac, or put a coat of under-body deadener over the rust proof grease and then Flashtac over that? |

maybe remove it and apply a non grease based rust protector then sound deaden??

yeah it remove the old foam stuff. and get some of that tinned rust prooofing stuff...then put the sound deadener down

Yeah, it's not foam in this case, but some kind of grease. I suppose it is grease

I bought this Flashtac as an experiment, I actually didn't know what Dynomat looked like because I'd never seen it up close. The Flashtac I got, because I'm only really looking at hushing it up a bit, to make it a bit more tolerable. Then on the way home I check in at this car audio place in Midland, and he brings this Dynomat. I f**k' couldn't believe my eye's. Same layer of tar based something, with a fairly thick layer of aluminum. Might be slightly thicker than the Flashtac, but very close in comparison I have to tell ya. The only thing is the Flashtac comes in various widths, not much of a problem at $37.00 a fairly good sized roll. At that price you could go 2 layers I suppose. |

most sound deadener looks like that it's lkie saying dulux white paint looks the same as some stingy white paint, both look the same but one will be much better than the other. dynamat i think you'll find is a hell of alot better.

At least in principle the Flashtac will have a noise reduction effect. Simply because that is what it is. Tar with an aluminum backing, that by it's very design, will cut noise. As I said for $37.00, you can do 2 layers. I'm kinda sure that would out do 1 layer of the Dynamat. Unless I'm completely off my nut

so where abouts do you get it? and what do you ask for just flash tac??

Yeah it's made by Bears. It's called "Flashtac." And it is weather proofing tape. I got mine from Bunning's. They come in various widths, mine is the $37.00 roll, 96mm X 10 meters. The self adhesive tape is about 2mm thick, the alumina layer is fairly decent, and I see no difference between that layer and Dynamat's.
I'll let you know how it goes.
