Hey guys
Went to change my steering wheels buttons today since the missus broke one of them and i found two annoying bolts that i don't have the tools for. They are a star shape fitting with single pin in the center. Anyone know where i can get a tool like that from. Or if anyone in the ipswich area has one i could borrow????? Cheers(if it wasn't for my hang over i would have cut the bloody things off, but can't handle that much noise )

Yeah I paid $40 for that tool. Its a 5 point anti-tamper bit not like the normal 6 point torq bits you can buy. Available from FTG Salvage.
Ford dont like selling them to the general public. I think its a Ford only tool possibly. |

these bolts are a b**ch! I think ford even use them to bolt the radios in. (to prevent theft i presume). Not sure of all fords have them but mine does . I just got a small drill bit and slightly drilled the little center pin out.

If they're the same ones used for the radio mount, d**k Smith, Jaycar or the like will have them. I got mine from Radio Parts her in Melbourne, just a standard security torx bit set.

Thats a stupid thing to do as it will most likely VOID your insurance |

JETXR had an aftermarket steering wheel in it, so its doable, but at what cost.
i'd just buy an AU momo wheel or similar. also, for undoing the bolt we're talkin about, simple goto ford and ask if they'll loosen it.

You wont buy them at d**k's or any other normal shop. These bits have been specially designed to stop backyard mechanics tampering with critical (read sensitive) parts of cars. They are called Tamper-Resistant TORX PLUS. They are only sold to service shops who genuinely require them.
Quote: From http://www.aboveboardelectronics.com/ca ... stems.html
Tamper-Resistant TORX PLUS® Drive System Unique 5-lobe elliptical geometry (versus standard 6-lobe) and a post in the middle of the recess for maximum security * Non-symmetrical, elliptically-based geometric configuration * Five lobes with solid post in center of recess * Drivers only available to OEMs and authorized service personnel * Allows optimum torque transfer and increased driveability * Reduces fatigue and muscular stress during manual assembly * Non-symmetrical shape provides more resistance to tampering * Limited access to drivers maintains integrity of system So try FTG auto salvage and see if they can order one in for you.
