my mates speedo has died in his ef fairmont.
the trip computer shows the average speed once you reset it. i don't have a wiring diagram of the circuit with me, but does the ecu see the speed signal first or does the cluster see it? it does sound like the cluster is at fault but i'll look into it more tomorrow.

Cluster sees it first.
If the speed sensor was at fault, the auto would be in LHM as well. Put the cluster in diagnostic mode to check if the analogue indicator is at fault.

yeh it ended up being the gear in the gearbox. it spins when the car is stationary.
