What is the best way to swap over from Futura door trims to Fairmont ones and keeping the manual winders
Before someone says "why don't you get power windows" I have an AU console and cannot be stuffed converting to elect windows I believe the issue is that the Fairmont (high series) trims have a longer arm rest and may hit the winder, can someone confirm this? Can the door arm rest be swapped over (GLi Futura to high series (Ghia etc) to avoid this issue? Also the rear trims can only be used with winders only if the ashtray is taken out? is there a way around this? cheers

it'll be a bit of an effort modifying the door trims to suit, and they'll look modified in the end.. It'd be easier to put in power windows.. it's not all that difficult, but it will look professional..

I don't think its going to work as the fairmont trims indeed have longer armrests and the winders fowl.

When I had my EL Futura I upgraded the existing door trims without replacing them because I didn't want to do electric windows in the back. Rear-door trims got woodgrain, chrome door handle, carpeted map pocket with courtesy light. Front trims also got padding on the armrest, from a Fairlane. All obtained at reasonable prices from various wreckers.

Thanks assizy. Those padded armrests are great for your elbow during long trips.
I took most of the goodies out before I sold the Futura in February. |

Yeah I know but it gives you some ideas for mix-and-match with those models' high series doortrims, while keeping your manual windows in the back.

Oh i just relised barnsy that you wanna keep EB trims, hehe.
It appears that the EB/D trims will be ok, but you still have the window switch in the rear trim, will look silly with this and a winder. Why not go EA-EB1 Fairmont trims, as they were still available with a manual window. Notice on these trims that the area were the winder would be is clewar of obstruction, so by simply putting in a hole for the winder, it'll work, but as i said, you'll still have the switch in the back, unless you get EA-EB1 trims.

I just got those trims off Dan, for the woodgrain inserts.
I have a EB1 fairmont ghia leather seats and want to get trims that match. But as you have said the EB1 fairmont came with manual winders, so if anybody has some laying around let me know. http://www.fordmods.com/forums/post916170.html#916170 cheers

Hey Barnsy, I've recently fitted a complete EB2 Fairmont interior (seats/carpet) to my EB2 Gli, but I still have to fit the door trims. Obviously, the front trims will be just a hole drilled to fit the winders, but the rear trims will be losing the ashtray/switch panel in place of an acrylic plate of the same size and recovered in spare material from some extra rear seat bolsters that I picked up at the same time as the full interior. I'm going to fit some small short bolts through the acrylic plate before its recovered so I can bolt it through the door trim in the original place so that it looks tidy, then just drill the holes for the winders and it'll be all done....cheers Linz.
