I have a 1991 Fairmont Ghia with auto transmission. I am going to remove the "T handle" to replace it with a newer one (same type just new). How do I remove the handle without disturbing anything else.

Loosen the lock nut under the shifter handle a little, then the handle will just unscrew, easy:P

The nut on the botton of the shifter is a lock nut. So looking from the top, turn the nut clockwise. This winds it down the shaft a little way, then the shifter can be twisted off, followed by the nut. When replacing it, wind the nut back down onto the shaft till it stops, then wind the shifter down. Chances are it will be facing the wrong way when it stopped, so wind it back up the shaft until it sits right, and tighten the locknut up to the base of the shifter. Simple stuff
