well guys yesterday was a sad day.... as it was warm, the aircon was going to go on. welllll turned it on clutch kicked in butttt no cold air. was cold but not cold cold. now its gone just over 9 months from its last regass. and its now lost gas 9 months on telling me that she has a leak! also im pretty sure sometimes when i have the heater on (NO a/c) it sounds like the clutch on the a/c is engaging??? so the question is.... where is a normal spot for a a/c to be leaking. ive checked around the ac manifold and no signs on a liquid leak.. and i no if i take it to an a/c place it will cost me a f**k load.

Not completely - you are supposed to operate your a/c for a couple of mins a week to lubricate the seals too.
if it has no gas the pressure switch will normally cut out and you wont get a/c anyway. Is the engine fans working alright? - and is the heater turning off??? |

Most people use the A/C in winter to demist/defog the front windscreen - its the fastest way.
Climate cars use A/C when heating to dehumidify. So most of the time it isnt a problem. ... And no, it isnt compulsory, but thats the same as it isnt compulsory to change your shocks. Its a little item of maintenance that really does extend the life of the a/c. Just something thats good to know |

Are you sure it has leaked all it's gas?
The reason I asked is because my EL Fairmont was doing the same thing. I could hear the compressor cut in, cold air would blow from the vents and then would gradually get less-cooler even though the compressor was still engaged. This happened even after I had it regassed. Eventually it would just blow semi-cool air. The problem was with the TX valve (it's the aluminium block - just off the firewall to the left of your windscreen washer container - that has copper pipes running in and out of it). Mine was blocked from some s**t in the system. To troubleshoot if this is your problem, start the car with the AC off, have someone switch it (the AC) on and see if the compressor clicks in. If it does and the vents eventually blow semi-cool (not cold cold) air this could be your problem too. That is, if there is plenty of gas in the system. Total cost for a new TX valve and replacement 'O' rings was $140. If your AC system has a leak, they should be able to put a dye in the system so they can see where it is leaking. Good luck! Hope it's nothing too major. |

io wow thats really good advice, yeah i think that might be something to look at. it has the dye in the system cost like 30.00 more when i got it regassed. ill look into that. who changed that over for you?
