So a lot of people go for LED's to re-color their dash, is it possible to use those little rubber sleeves over the original globes to get your color of choice?
Rather than fiddling with LED's/resistors i was wondering how effective it would be if it is possible.

Mate all I did was copy troymans idea. Just get some glass stain/dye and dip your bulbs in it and then plug them into the loom to dry them for a minute. Worked awesomely for me. $5 for some "stained glass effect paint" from spotlight(a home decorating place over here)

Hey that's not a bad idea.
As for those condoms, I'm pretty sure they don't really affect the light much.

Would the paint in time start cracking off? Then you gotta open it up again

Mate, dont worry about the 'condom' covers, the LEDs are cheap from ebay - 10bux for ten, posted, and look a million bucks when done, which btw is piss easy.
I posted pics in another LED thread of mine done in blue with the ebay LEDs. PM if you want a link to the actual LEDs on ebay. |

Yeh i've seen those on E-bay, but is the light spread evenly or do you need to frost the LED's and all that? I was thinking using the original globes would be pretty easy and i wouldn't have to spend much time modifying LED's etc.

On the 2nd page down the bottom is my dash done with the leds from ebay, seller virtualvillage or something. As you can see, the LEDs are fricken awesome! Much better light than normal globes! The only 'mods' you have to do to them, is sand the ends down a few mm to fit behind the perspex frame inside the cluster. You dont need to mod the holders or solder anything. Then you just have to make sure you've got them round the right way. $10 and maybe an hour max. |

Yeah for your dash cluster I'd suggest the leds, especially for the power saving reasons, as suggested virtual village off ebay, although mine didn't come out quite that good, i don't think, might have to try sanding them.
The comdom things, are more to make the yellow incandescent a bit closer to a whitish. they're also vary to what degree of colour they give out, etc. Also wear out from the heat. By the way krisisdog, what did you use for your foot wells etc, as I mine didn't come out that well.

My footwells are 6" (give or take) neons from supercheap, were about 10bux each.
I tapped into the wiring behind the CD player, I think it powers the light on the back of the center consoles on fairmonts. |
