i did my blue dash conversion on the weekend, and i beleive i have made some discoveries that don't appear on the doco...
firstly, the blue globe holders can be used for an LED, all you do is get a tiny screwdriver and poke the metal tabs from the sides, remove the globe then replace it with an LED (and resistor), slide the metal tabs back in and solder to the sides. I had to enlarge the hole on the resistor side, however, with my soldering iron. secondly, when converting your LCD panels to blue illumination, I find it helps to insert white paper and a blue LED, as opposed to blue paper, which makes it green. hope this helps someone...

you'll also find your lcd bit will work heaps better if you use a white LED with a blue filter and some white paper.

get the resitors to make the LEDs work on 14volts not 12

yeah i was about to do that today but the LEDs were like $3 each so im going to go to jaycar or something and see if i can get them cheaper.
I needed a light for the trip pc and i pulled apart the old globe and put the LED with resistor in it. But had to do some playing round to find the right way it went is, as LEDs have polarity. But the Green (all i had at the time) looks sweet

oh yes of course goddam it that's prolly why the cheapies i buy keep dying.
And also does anyone know of a good mpeg4 to avi converter? i have a vid of my dash and i wanna show it in a standard format for everyone.

Heyo,
Just wondering, when converting your dashes to LED's, dont you get bright spots on the dial face where the LED's light is focused? What if you kept the standard bulbs and put some blue celefane behind the dial faces? cheaper then futzing around with LED's... cya Rene. |

when ya pull your dash apart you'll see that there is no point at which the LED can have a direct beam of light, due to the light dispersion plate thats in there.

once the car is on the battery will be charging at about 14 volts anyway so it shouldnt be much of a problem

Don't sand them at all, all that does is dim the led's and they look s**t, i'll try and find the pics of when i sanded them and when i haven't the difference is massive.

It doesnt dim them it just speads the light because LEDs are very directional. I sanded them otherwise you end up with blue dots |

was that the only change between the pics? no sanding back of the dial face (rear) or lowered the vaule of the resistors?
If not then I take back my previous comments
