Hi guys like the title says I wanted to know if the (top piece i.e where the wood grain sits on the fairmont) is the same/interchangable on the faclon, xr6, fairmont etc apart from looks?

Just be aware that there are three different shades of Grey.

The EF has a dark shade, the Early EL has a lighter shade, and the late EL has a shade almost as dark as the EF but not quite.

IIRC the front door speaker grilles have a rivet through the top dark grey strip, so remove it before you unclip it from the main door trim.

I just did this myself.. noticed that one of my ghia trims had marks and a small hole near the lock knob... was the same grey as the factory trims so I drilled out the rivit under the speaker grill, removed all the clips on the back and swapped them over.. then drilled some holes for the wood insert and ghia badge and it looks perfect..

good stuff and very handy that ford made them two piece.
