Hi everyone
I have recently purchased a 2nd hand Fairmont EF, dec 94 model. Have had the entire AC/demister unit replaced (which required the entire dash to be pulled out). Now I have an annoying problem of the trip computer display being so dim that I can harldy see it (although it is working). Am debating taking it back to the mechanic who replaced the AC/demister unit and getting him to fix, but scared he's just going to charge me a whole lot more for an easy fix, any ideas how to fix the problem? Any answers would be most welcomed...
Cheers

Hold the dimmer level up on the headlight switch?
Replace the globe? (theres 2)

if its working, then the connections are fine, as the TC wont wake up if not connected propperly

Thanks for the info, tried the dimmer level, that made a slight difference, particularly in the dark, but in the daylight, it made no difference at all, looks like it is the globes, in your experience is replacing the globes a particulalry hard job (does it require removing the dash or anything like that) or is it essentially a 5 minute job that I could do myself?
Cheers

The globe replacement is a quick 5min job that you could do yourself. You just have to remove the ashtray radio surround and the dash facia. From memory there are 8 screws. Once the facia is off the trip computer will come off with it. Then it is just a matter of replacing the globes. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, have had a look, managed to remove the ashtray, but now require a special tool to remove the bolts tha hold the radio in place. Any ideas? Your help is most appreciated. Cheers

The name of the bit is a Torx security bit, but there should be two screws bove that that you undo, you don't need to remove the radio.

Yeah andrewts is right there is no need to remove the torx screws for the radio just the 2 screws above it. Be sure to remove the 3 screws above the dash cluster and 2 screws either side of the steering wheel collum. Have a good look they are all there in plain sight. Cheers
