If I was to get an EL XR8 does it have the wiring and plugs already there so that you could change the clock panel to the trip computer panel?

This has probably been covered before but I couldnt find it in search.
Cheers

not plug & play pete - you still need to run the data wire to get the T/C functioning correctly

I would think that the plug would be there as i am led to believe that the Gli's were the only one's that missed out on all the extras.

yes there is a plug - but it doesn't have the data-line necessary for the T/C to work correctly! :P it has all the power lines etc

yes you can, but you need to run a wire from the plug to the right-hand side of the cluster connector pin in order for the trip computer to recieve the correct data.

as for the door skins - its not too difficult, if you've got a few brain cells! have a look in the 'Technical Documents' section - it'll give you a good place to start looking to see what you'll need to source

I would have thought an EL XR8 already has the trip computer installed, my XR6 has one....they are standard with the XRs as far as I am aware.

They are not standard on an XR6 and I havent seen one on an XR8. They normally just have a clock panel installed. You are lucky my friend.
I'll let you all know soon as I am going to have a look at one today.

This has been covered so many times. to make it easier ill do this....

ALL EF & EL, FUTURA, XR6, GLI, XR8 etc can support a Trip Computer.

You need to run a few short wires, all infomation is in the technical document section under Trip Computer.

It'll take you no longer the 35 mins to install, very easy!

4th time now :P

just did the trip computer in my futura. thought i would do it at the same time as changing the dials and guages to fairmont ones. everything went smooth as. everything works as it should EXCEPT the lcd on the trip comp doesnt dim when the lights are put on. the buttons and side things dim when i use the dash dimmer switch, but the lcd doesnt dim then either. is the same brightness as when lights arent on.

anyway, reall simple, ya just run 2 wires to the windscreen demister button (for lighting feeds) and one to the dash plug. easy as. love fiddling with these cars!

with the dash, i managed to get the resistor on there, but cant change the eeprom cos there's something blocking it (over the top of some of the little legs). also, what tool do i need to get it out? (says you need special tools in the tutorial).

cheers guys,

shay

Thats your problem. Futuras need to run three wires not two. I betcha the third one is the one you need to dim it.

I pretty sure without getting the manual, that all the LCD's (trip, climate, dash) dimming function is controlled by the high series BEM???
