hey people
im going to have a crack at installing the trip computer into my GLi in the next month. I have read the doco on how to and it all seems pretty simple. What sort of cables do i need. Is there a specific amp cable that i need?

there's enough other threads around with details, do a quick search and you shoul dbe able to find the one I did.
by amp cable, they just mean some thin-ish wire used to hook up the data line from the cluster, as it won't exist in the Futura and GLi.

you dont even need amp wire.
just get yourself some auto wire, very thin or hookup wire (i used hookup wire) head down to d**k and just buy some, doesnt matter as no huge voltage or current going through any of them quite easy, should take you anything from 15mins to 1h30m depending on how qiuck you are. |

cool
i was not sure if it needed a specific specification of wire, but if it is only carrying a signal and little amps i wont worry it will probably be 2-3 weeks before i get a chance to install and find out how it goes cheers

I used .12mm speajker wire for all the aftermarket/non-stock mods (trip computer, lights) etc. Works fine. Big enough to work around and small enough to hide.

Is there a specific amp cable that i need? I was thinking of doing the same thing with my Gli. But the price of the actual Trip Computer Unit from Ford of $325 seemed somewhat oppressive and not worth the Hassle. But if you can find one from the Wreckers then you would be doing well.

Hey if anyone can direct me to a site to get instructions on installing the trip computer i would be greatly appreciated.
Ford want $395 for the installation kit and ship it from Melbourne to Sydney. I’m not that patient. |

Its easy to put in that wire though. That's right it is easy, the whole job took me about an hour - it was the first time I'd pulled apart the dash - now it's a 5 min job
