Ok the tech document is awesome ( http://www.fordmods.com/forums/Trip-Computer-d32.html ) but as im not sparky I dunno what wires to use, I have some speaker cable lying around so I tried that but it didnt seem to work, is this good enough to use or what should I get?

Go to an Auto store and get some Auto electrical cable.

speaker wire will be fine, its low voltage and low current.
The problem is, most people jam the bare wires up the guts of the male plug, causing no end of grief.

acquire a flying lead (spare plug) from a wreck.
Unclip the plug, install the new pin, solder connectors wires, done.
