Hi People,

Ive got an EB Fairmont and just wondering how
accurate the trip computer is....?
Particularly the "range" display where it tells you
how many km's till empty. I've only ever gone as
low as about 20.
Anybody ever stretched this...?? Are they accurate..??

Comments welcome, thanks.

They are accurate to a point - but rely on the reading from the fuel tank as to how much is left. Falcons arent particulalrly good at providing accurate fuel gauge readings.

we drove justfordimas wagon (eb2) back from coffs harbour, bootload full of s**t 3 people in it, with an auto that only had 1st & 3rd.....
we drove it from coffs to castle hill on a tank (wasnt even quite full) anyways twe wanted to test the range accuracy, ran it from newcastle with aboput 150kms left, the trip computer hit 0 just before we crossed the mooney mooney bridge, and we drove another 30-40odd kays to the servo.. we reached the servo wkithout running out of fuel so we did laps round the block... still didnt run out about 55kms after the range did

not that i recomend doing this but it was a bit of fun on the return journey from schoolies..

btw when we filled in up,, i put about 80l into a 72l tank... go figure?

I can't tell you how accurate the range, is cos I have never tested it, but the instant and average useage figures are reasonable.

My calc's are always within a half a litre of the computer!

You shouldn't run your tank right out anyway. All the s&*t in the bottom can block filters and pickups etc and can be expensive if it makes it as far as injectors.

Cheers,

I've had my wagon down to 0 quite a few times, the trip computer fuctions dont work to accurately on the 4L when they've got 24lb/hr injectors in there :D

it also depends on the history of the tank of fuel they have just read, ie if you are driving hard they will count down faster, if you are doing long easy driving (read: country trips) I find they count down much slower.. the kms per litre comes into a lot more.

I've had mine on 0 loads of times.

It goes up and down depending on driving conditions.

I took off for a trip down the hume a few months ago, and filled up just before I left.

The DTE went from 450 to 600, and in the mean time I'd driven 100k's!

yeah mine does that also - like I said the more km's per litre you get it starts recalculating the distance to empty!

Falcons are btter fuel economy on highway over city driving.

DTE is calculated by the fuel economy at taht point in time multiplied by the fuel left in tank. So if you have a fuel economy of 20l/100km then your DTE will be lower then if your economy was 10l/100km.

If you reset it for the main type of driving it becomes more accurate.

Mine used to read at 12l/100km and the DTE was reasonably accurate.
