I would reccomend connecting it to the ignition via a realay.
Those radios tend to suck ALOT of power

Advice, i know FM900s very very well been playing with them for years, fm900s don’t like to be installed in a place that there is allot of vibrations as the VCO f**k up, they will need connection to the battery if you don’t and there is a slight power drop it will play up so you will need to install power to the battery and put a fuse on both the neg and pos power wires. here is a little bit of info for error codes of the radio from my site http://www.cbdomain.com/fm900.htm

Wiring -
You get a positive from the battery( fused), run that into the relay, and then tap into an accessories wire behind the dash, maybe the cig lighter or tape/cd player wire. Accessories should be dark blue with a white stripe. Then just add the power wire for the uhf to the output of the relay. try and ground to something metal, not the thin black wire as its pretty poor. Now whenever you turn the car to acc the relay gets a small current which switches it on, completing the circuit. it doesnt draw from your acc wire, just the cable from the battery. |

The FM900s dont like voltage drop as they freak out and shut the VCO down.
also run the earth to the battery not to the body of the car.

Never run a 2Way Radio via switches or Relays ect.
You will burn out the RF Circuit. Also Radio surge draw is high and the relay switching on and off will kill the radio. From Experiance I left my Kenwood 25Watt radio on in the car for 3 days and it did not flatten the battery. Just Install it properly and remember to turn it off. Also if its going via any of the cars eletrics in any form or fashon they will get constant interferance. You must wire to the battery. I beleve thats now a ACA standard. |
