well since reading/joining here i have decided to spend my hol's changing my std '97 el gli wagon, 5 speed, with new dash gauges , powerwindows, trims etc.
i installed the trip comp, and cruise, just after i bought it in '98. (very expensive back then) so a couple quik questions, i have read the many tech doc's on changing the gauges, but which is the best to use? i'm just confused on which model car should i b getting it from! anything else i need from the donor car? (oil press sender, i no about) just after the extra gauges, not interested in the fancy stuff from the top of the line ltd's etc. since my drivers door winder is worn badly, i thought i'd install pw, prob only fronts, unless i can get a good price on 4. at the same time will do door trims, so are the wagon rear doors the same as the sedan? seen lots of trim sets on ebay, but all for sedans. should i change the bem to the blue (mid) unit for the window power off function ? mayb add the rotary stalk for variable intermittent wipers? what do those bem units usually go for? any thing you can think of i can do behind the dash/console while apart? thanks

for the gauge conversion, i would fit the el fairmont dash or el fairmont ghia, too much work changing to fairlane ltd dash. u only need the oil pressure sender, uses the same wiring.
u could put futura power windows in, fronts only, need floor loom, new door looms and switches for the console or chase up a fairmont floor loom, 4 door looms and 4 regs and switches for console and rear doors door trims are same sedan and wagon blue bem/bcm is required for window as u know, wreckers want around $25 for them im not sure if its a matter of just changing the stalk to get variable intermittant wipers, maybe relay as well?? u could add the footwell lighting too whilst the dash fascia is out pm me if u want i have some parts u might be interested in. craig |

dont need to change BEM with power windows. i did a 4 window conversion in mine and just ran the power straight from the fuse box (through a circuit breaker mind you)
it is actually more handy than you think being able to wind the windows with the keys not in the ignition. btw, its one of the most usefull mods you can do |
