went down to the wreckers yesturday, and pulled outa a ZL the only trip comptuer that there was in the yard (cost me $10)

newayz, i took it home, put it into the dash of my ZL, and it doesnt work - the "system test panel" lights light up when ya punch the 'test' button.. but the LCD screen doesnt work for the computer.

pulled the face off it, and it looks as if the lcd screen over thingy (soz, bad description i know) looks like it has been burnt a lil on one side.

the question im asking i guess: can it be fixed, or is it a throw it away and look for another one?

thanks for the help :)

IIRC it's actually a vacuum flourescent display just like the digital displays

the "burnt" side of the display is normal, i've found the problem with the trip computers is that a couple of components on the circuit boards get burnt out..... i've seen 3-4 like this so far

oh ok - wow, i thought it was an lcd screen - didnt think that it would be the same sorta thing as the Dash...

so i guess that means that there is not really ne chance of being able to fix it..

might have to track down another working one then for my baby

*update*

i pulled the LPG mixer out of the engine bay on sunday, and unplugged 2 wires... a pink one that connected to the mixer.. and a green one that connected to the lpg celenoid - that was it - only them two wires.

when i tested to make sure that the motor still ran (which it did - eventually, but thats another story as to what i borked) i noticed that the trip computer screen lit up, and all the buttons and such worked.

ima guessin that the lpg was put in rather dodgily or sumthing...

oh yeah, ne1 know how to set the time on these thigns?! coz i cant figure it out! lolz

thanks

Kinda sounds like a bad connection, maybe dry or cracked solder joints on the trip computer's PCB. If you have some experience with identifying dry or cracked solder joints then pull your TC apart and check all joints including the actual input plug and solder where necessary.
