Gday all, my 351 Cleveland runs straight gas. Ive noticed now that the weather is getting colder that Im having a little trouble starting in the morning. Takes alot longer to crank over. My leads are good, spark gap is good and timing good. Just seems to be the cold affecting it. Does anyone have any tips that could help me with starting in the morn?
Cheers.

have you tried turning the key on until the gas timer clicks off, then turn the key off, then on again until the timer clicks off again, then try start it. You might find its not priming enough gas for a cold start, therefore by cycling the ignition your letting more gas flow through the mixer.

Yeah i could try that. I normally turn the key , wait for the click and then start. But i havent tried doing it a FEW times before starting. I get the feeling it isnt priming properly

on the work horse(F-100 ex ambo) we got a switch operated cold start fitted, it injects gas below the butterflies and usually fires up really quick

Man i have to take a pic of the setup i had on mine, have had so many ask me to do it in the past.

I had a 425 and E type convertor on my XD, when i fitted it the prick wouldn't start at all, i put a fitting into the convertor and used a petrol lockoff, i ran a hose straight to the intake and powered it off the starter, that way she gets gas as it cranks.
After fitting this the thing fired within seconds.

Well I think Ive sorted my problem . Really just the technique rather than a mechanical problem . I turn the key on and off twice and then start with my foot about half throttle then slowly lift off and she kicks straight away.!
