The 1998 EL Falcon with Factory fitted Duel FUel l own has a Vialle lpg converter

Car has be serviced regularly by the Bayford dealer since purchased and then by Ultratune over the last 2 years. I have 2 problems with running on LPG. I was told by the dealer the system l have a Vialle LPG convertor/system which Automatically starts on petrol everytime and then switchs to LPG once the engine is going by itself. So l can leave the Petrol/Gas selector on gas and start/stop car while its on gas.

The 2 problems l have while running on Gas are:

1. CAR STALLS ON STARTUP - after initial key turn (engine turns but stalls after you release the key) Subsequent key turns results in the engine turning for 1min or more before it picks up and sometimes require a press of the accelarator as soon as it turns, to keep it from stalling. This can be random from once a week to every start up in a row, but now getting to be nearly every start up. It also seems to be worse when its cold like during the nights.

2. LOST OF POWER WHILE DRIVING - While driving, the car loses all engine power before it picks up again. Rev meter drops to idle level before comming back up all within 1-2secs. This will go from about 10secs to about 1mins. Last time it happened l had to drive back home at 60km while it continously did this (about 10mins of driving). Sometimes this can happen while crusing and other times during heavy acceleration.

The convertor has been changed 2 times over the last 10 years. Once by the Bayford and a 2nd time earlier this year by Ultratune. I was told that this would fix the problem and it never did. The 2nd time it was changed l ended up getting problem no 2 where it loses power while driving. Like it has no fuel and then a huge surge of it goes into the engine.

Bayford nor UltraTune seems to know whats wrong or how to fix it. This car is now costing me more than its worth simply to run on gas and now seems cheaper to run on petrol since it works beautifully on petrol.

l'm not really sure if the LPG system has been serviced properly nor the gas tank checked/serviced. I am assuming they were when the convertor was changed.

The car has done nearly 210.000km and lm the only owner.

Does anyone have any clue as to these to problems or anything similar or know of any car gas specialist l can take the car to have diagnosed since neither

Any help is much apprieciated.

Turn the idle 1/8th - 2/8ths of a turn clockwise to increase the idle, give it a shot ;)

my ef factory tickford gas has exactly the same 2 problems,ive tried two other converters to,i have adapted to it,its the missus runabout and she dont complain,from what i can say i believe the tickford ecu does not like the aftermarket converters,they seem to lean off,hence power loss,i never had a problem with any of this with the factory converter,i just couldnt justify paying $1000 for an o.e style converter,wish i could suggest something but then id be answering my own question,dont think turning the idle up is gonna do much though!

Initially, clean the throttle body and adjust the base idle settings and take it from there

Im not sure about the problem driving, but certainly this applies to idle.

CHECK YOUR GROUNDS!

Check the Voltage Difference from the Battary to Block, and Block to Chassis (and Chassis to Block).

The Oxygen Sensor is referenced to the BLOCK as ground even though its a 4 wire sensor. If there is a Voltage Drop from Chassis to Block (and Battery) then your O2 is going to be very wrong. It will run ok when the O2 sensor is cold, then after about a minute it will start to hunt *really* bad and stall as it things your o2 is out.

a .3v voltage drop is enough to do this.

Ive just had to replace my Earth Straps and run a few more on my EF Ghia to solve that problem.
