Hi all, I'm a new member with a question about my AU3 wagon with factory Tickford duel fuel.
I've noticed that the car has started surging when under load (eg uphill 1/4 throttle), but is fine when cruising on steady throttle. Originally thought the auto needed a service, but after some experimenting (runs perfect on petrol), i now realize it is the gas system.
This is what i have found while running on gas so far: Starts & idles perfectly & changes from gas to petrol normally, recently had a couple of backfire stalls at slower speeds once for no reason & once when i went to take off quicker than normal.
Other than the surging under load (gets worse the harder you accelerate), the car is driving normally & seems to be getting the same economy figures.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I suggest you get the GAS system serviced by a professional.
There is a gas computer that talks to the fuel computer and its rather complicated for a novice.
Also any work on a gas system requires a license, the reason for that is if you disconnect anything and you do not reconnect it properly you could get a explosive gas leak.

change the plugs and leads. backfires are caused by ignition problems and I have fixed this a few times myself with new wirewound "gas" leads. my car has done over 356000 on gas no worries with new leads about every 100000 or so.
