hi all i need help from all the gas gurus out there.
i've got a 05 ba dedicated gas ute that has a flat spot mid range and is generally gutless, even more than usual. it was running ok and then i put a new stainless extractors, cat and 2.5in exhaust and a cai off a typhoon, then the flat spot and gutlessness got even worse WTF?? things done about 10k ago: new converter and stepper motor new NGK plugs and genuine coils new air filter thought might be O2 sensor so i just changed that what i want to know is would the heat from the extractors be cooking the convertor even through the heat sheld? is the exhaust flow too good? would it be getting to much air with the cai? would the cat be already stuffed? anyone one with any idea's would greatly help, i wanted to make it go better not worse |

After the mods did you do an ECU reset?
Do that and see if it helps... Disconnect battery.. Flash High beams (yes with battery disconnected) wait 10-20 mins. Hook battery back up. Turn on Ignition (ICC will Have code on it) Turn off then on and start car.

yes i did the reset after putting the new o2 sensor in seemed to make idle worse thats about it. I didn't flash the headlights but i left it off for about an hour.
Does anyone think it could be getting too much air from the cai? I read on here bosch double platiums are the best gas plugs, but when i put them when the ba was running well they gave it a rotten idle and made it back fire!! I'm just about ready to sell it and buy something else so keep shooting ideas there has to be something i've missed. Thanks, andrew. |

It is possible the lower intake is causing it to lean out.
Try blocking it off somehow and take it fot a drive and see if it improves... Have heard of someone else doing this and having the same effect. I just went with the XR6T snorkal on mine.

hi all thanks for all the replys, just an update,
the rough idle's has been fixed with the O2 sensor, i found my balance line off so thats why the idle got worse with the new o2 sensor. I blocked off the secondary cai and it seems it was getting too much air WTF! With it blocked it has removed my flat spot and given me more power. So for all those dedicated gas falcon owners out there, DO NOT repeat DO NOT put a secondary cai on your car, it will make it run like s#*t and have LESS POWER!! If thats possible. Thanks andrew. |

The intake you fitted would have caused a balance line issue. Believe it or not that line wasn't just an after thought and small changes in air pressures and movement of air past the line in the intake can cause problems. This highlights why it's important to understand how something works before modifying it. |

yes i understand what the balance line is for i just didn't think it would make that much of a difference.
Question is if i was to make a Y piece up for it so it takes air from both intakes does any think this could work or would it put too much air into the line? I've heard the these convertors can't take boost, would the extra air going into the balance line make it not run? Thanks, andrew |

I have heard of someone moving the balance line to top of the airbox (in the pipe) so it can account for both intakes.... But never seen pics or seen how it was done....

I think i've got other issues as well because every now and then it still misses and almost dies at idle, and its still gutless. |
