Well Bruno is getting a bit crook and sarting to backfire and I told the owner on Sunday that I was going to change the spark plugs in the next week or two (haven't been looked at in over 50,000kms). He seems happy that I'm paying more attention to keeping his cab maintained than he ever did.

Now the question is. What spark plugs are recommended for a dual fuel B series that will be used on LPG around 95% of the time. I'm not a big fan of Iridium's as the financial outlay is far to great for the expected efficiency. You don't see highly strung pro stock motors run Iridium plugs? IMO they are for the well healed and lazy among us.

Hit me with some brands and part numbers please guys.

Injected system? If so, I've been told to use Bosch FR7KPP+33U platinum plugs.

Regards,
Dave

Mine is on gas injection, but my mechanic/installer swapped from the iridium plugs to standard NGK plugs with a smaller gap.

He reckons that the LPG does not like iridium plugs for some reason and the gap is too large for LPG in any case.

Iridium or platinum plugs with a standard gap (1.1-1.4mm) are fine for injected LPG use.

Dave

I'm just going by what he said and the fact that he adjusted the line pressure to the injectors first and it didn't help. He then changed the plugs and that fixed the problem.

In the end it doesn't worry me what worked, just that it did work.

1.1mm works best, but the difference isn't even worth comparing if you have an injected system...

Dave

Duel fuel, go one colder than normal, larger gap will only put more stain on dizzy and coils, leads and plugs. If it starts to backfire, get it fixed/ tuned before it costs you a lot more, just ask me,  Moreton

In my experience, spark plug gap and heat range don't make any noticeable difference to power or economy of engines running injected LPG systems. Personally, I would run a 1.1mm gap on BA-BF Falcons (petrol gap is 1.3mm).

searching for the Bosch FR7KPP33U+ plugs on the Supercheap site was doing my head in. they actually come in a six pack labelled P38-6 FYI guys. Only $46.49 with claimed service life up to 100k. I will be getting them for both the Territory and the BF3 Egas wagon. It will be interesting to see what difference I see from both these cars that have not had plugs replaced in a loooooong time.

i have been using NGK FR6EI-11 for the last 10 years since we started fitting gas to BA's and havent had a problem. so thats one heat range colder to save the tips and a 1.1mm gap for a decent spark on lpg without affecting petrol operation.
