Thanks for the information.
Trans cooler - where do I get one? Would the car already have one? How much are they? |

In similar circumstances, a Lancer would use considerably less fuel (maybe about 11L/100km). mines about 15-16/100 Its call maintenance for a reason.... First thing I did was replace the O2 sensor, new plugs & service...... Always a good thing when purchassing a second hand car regardless of its previous life.... Mines an Xcab nearly 500k on its XR speedo, god knows how many kays its done but its still running its original engine...... Mine is about the same kays/100 as my wifes AU with an aftermarket mixer system..... I drive about 500 kays a week and only have to fill up once. Love that 93 Litre LPG strapped under my car Your Lancer would cost about the same to run as the BA...

Sometimes they do, depends if the previous owner knows about this issue.... When you get the car serviced ask them to check for you.... It sits in front of the radiator/aircon condensor.....

Laura81 wrote: My Lancer cost about $50-55 to fill and I got about 400ks out of it before it would be asking for petrol again. It had a 50 litre tank but I only ever ended up putting between 37-40 litres in at a time. Whereas the car I'm getting has a 100 litre tank - figure it holds about 92 litres being lpg - that's $45 to fill and I would think it would get more than 400ks out of the tank surely... Based on my calculations, $50 worth of fuel equates to roughly 15L/100km (50 * 1.25 / 4) which is actually VERY thirsty for a Lancer. What kind of driving do you normally do and what is your average speed? EDIT: Sorry, I screwed up there. 50 / 1.25 / 4 = 10L/100km An E-gas sedan can hold 93L of LPG (usable). Based on the average of 15L/100km (mixed cycle), you should get at least 600km out of a tank, but that will vary tremendously depending on the condition of the engine and your driving style, as I have said before.

AU99 wrote: You cant run a vapour injection system on an Egas, there are 2 reasons for this.. A. Injected LPG requires petrol to start, run upto 40c before switchover. B. Egas does not have injector pulses to drive the Injected LPG ECU. Egas run a completely different Inlet manifold with no injectors and different wirinng loom. Not true. You can run gas injection on an E-gas engine, but you would need either a petrol or aftermarket ECU for the gas ECU to piggy-back onto. Gas injection systems *CAN* start on gas, it depends on how the software is configured.

I used to do a lot of urban, stop/start driving. But I've now moved to the country about five days ago and will be doing mostly freeway driving. But even when driving to work and back with the Lancer I'd go between 80-110 depending where I was at the time. But as I said I would fill it up before it would be empty. The light telling me I was running low would come on when I was down to about 10-14 litres left so I was getting 400ks per 37-40 litres of petrol.
Thanks everyone for your help so far. I've got a nice list of things to make sure the mechanic checks or installs if needed. Oh and if the car doesn't have the trans cooler how much will one set me back? |

The loom is also different on Egas models, so you would have to buy a Petrol loom, a petrol ECU and Petrol Inlet manifold complete with fuel rail, injectors etc etc etc.... Easier to buy a petrol model to start with..... The Egas is a great car dont get me wrong, I think mines friggin brilliant.... I always have a smile on my face when people complain about their fuel bill...... I used to do Security Patrols years ago and as a patrol car we had Toyota Echo's 1.3ltr 5 speed manuals, I twisted my ankle and said to the boss I can still work if I drive my EL Falcon which was an auto. he agreed but was concerned about how thirsty my EL would be... I said OK I will have to have the rest of the week off!!! He agree'd and I beat the Echo in my Falcon Fuel wise by $2-3 in fuel each night I drove it!!!! He was really considering buying bigger cars to put on LPG after that!!!!!This was 3 years ago..... A Mate of mine started his own security company and bought Commonwhores and put them on SVI... been laughing ever since.....

Trans cooler would be about $200-300 but I would rather spend that than $2000 for a new transmission.... Cheap insurance and if you do alot of towing, hilly stuff etc it keeps the trans nice and cool.....

I won't be doing much towing but may do some. I'm happy to spend the $200 to $300 though if it will prevent worse damage. Oh and in terms of spark plugs and leads, is there any particular brand I should get installed that would give me best performance with the lpg?

Thanks. I'll see if I can find somewhere to buy some or get the mechanic to buy them and install them. I'd have no idea how to install spark plugs or leads so will leave it to the pros.

Make sure your mechanic applies plenty of dielectric grease on the coil boots prior to reinstalling the coils after the plug change. Failing to apply enough grease (or failing to apply any at all) will result in misfires, rough running and reduced power caused by spark leak. I can't emphasise this enough!!!!!
