Hey guys,
Here's the story: I recently got a car from a family friend for free, it's a '93 ED Falcon, only problem is it had a blown head gasket, The damage was bad enough that I got a new engine put in. It takes way too long to start, it turns over 10-20 times before it finally catches at gets going. Once it has started, it will be easy to start (instant) for 6+ hrs SO! I have 2 questions: 1) What could this be and what should I do? 2) Do LPG cars have any trick to them with bad starting? (E.G in a diesel you put your foot to the floor, in a petrol... you pump the pedal a little etc...) Thanks, renegade334

hey mate had the same problem with my EB, i start it on petrol wait til the engine is at operating temp and switch over to gas.
My understanding of that happens is that the gas converter is cold work properly in converting the gas from liquid to gas. The other reason might be that you have a slight leak and the gas lines are empty. My car does the exact same thing if i go to start on gas first off, once the engine is warm i have no trouble starting of gas like you. Hope this helps. |

Unfortunatly I can't do this at this stage because I have no switch for the petrol. The injectors are there, and the fuel pump is still there, but no switch, so I'll get when put in later on. (That also means the only gauge I have for the LPG is on the tank...) But thanks for the replies at least I know it's not abnormal. BTW, when its turning over should I be touching the accelerator? Cheers

Most injected cars always start on petrol and then change to gas at specified RPM....sounds like a problem with the fuel system.

Depends on how the installer has wired it up. mine dont start on Petrol, but it can be a b**ch to start when cold. Usually I hold the pedal flat to draw the gas then she will fire

whenever i dont have petrol and have to start on gas, i find that touching the accelerator while it's trying to turn over doesn't help, but as soon as i hear it catch a tiny bit i then put it down to halfway and it starts well everytime |

When i first got my car. it use to start straight away. With in 4 turns. Then it started taking longer n longer. Bout 20sec to start.
But when i changed the H/G on my car it started straight away. But now i got a broken timing chain. Go figure....

My mum had the same prob with her old EA so she started on petrol then turned it to LPG so i'd say that is the only fix |
