I believe that they do. The cat does not do anything on LPG, but the legality is it still must have one.

If the internals are not there, could that be noticed somehow?
I have a spare cat and may fit some extractors i have. My impression is i could remove the cat's innards while doing this.

I was figuring the car is pretty quiet considering there is only one muffler, so yes, i can see that removing the cat might make it loud. I have found the extractors i happen to have don't really fit, so it looks like i'm sticking with stock. Shame, as the cat weighs heaps.

Definatly need cat or you will get a big fine, dont forget its a emmision model vehicle, well anything made after 1976 June.
My cat converter is empty and no i havent punched it out, my question is if i replace it with a stainless highflow unit like magnaflow would i get any gains from it eg fuel economy, power? I was told a empty cat will get better performance but no so sure about economy.

Anything manufactured after 1986 in Australia is REQUIRED BY LAW to have a cat converter, regardless of the fuel type. Simple as that.
Only way to get away with no cat is to have a car manufactured before Jan 1st, 1986. |

Yeah u will get better economy just with any cat in it as it needs sum back pressure for the o2 sensor. I found out that the owner b4 me punch out the cat on my work car and when i replaced it the economy improved quiet alot

To be sure one way or the other, check the compliance plate and see if there is any mention there of ADR 37, if there is, then it requires a catalytic converter to be legal, ADR 37 is catalytic converter, if it's stamped on the compliance plate then it needs it to pass ADRs and be legal, simple as that.

Only way to get away with no cat is to have a car manufactured before Jan 1st, 1986. Or own a diesel or turbo diesel - no cats required.

Catalytic converters are required by all vehicles made after 1986 regardless of fuel type, even diesel.
