ive been doing some research on extractors and it seems the major brands such as Genie and Pacemakers i think give a considerabley lower warrenty to cars that have dual fuels or maybe cars just on LPG...
i could be mistaken though, just wandering

cheers

reason being LPG exhaust gases have a much higher water vapour content so the potential is there for higher corrosion rates

stainless extractors would be the best way around this - i have mild steel ceramic coated extractors on mine ... they're only about a year old tho

Interestingly LPG bodies say that a pro of using LPG is that exhaust systems last longer. I wondered how they came to that conclusion with the fact of higher water vapour. It's extremely noticable on my car, in winter it blows alot more steam while idling (compared to petrol).

thanks for that guys

what is the average life span of performance extractors on a regular 6 cyl engine that just uses unleaded?

be more than 7-8 years surely?

I think you'll find that LPG has very little impurities in it's exhaust gas compared to ULP - so not a lot mixes/combines with condensation(water).

ULP on the other hand has a fair few - carbon monoxide/nitric oxide/hydrogen sulphide(rotten egg gas) - given the right conditions, heat, etc, IIRC rotten egg gas can combine with water molecules to create a weak sulphuric acid solution.
Some budding chemists may be able to confirm this.

Makes sense! But we're right in saying that our BBQ powered cars do steam more, yeah ?

nah you lost me too i think its cause of the higher water vapor in the lpg that the tractors wont have a higher warranty

I know over many years the cars I've had with LPG have had the exhaust systems last a fair bit longer than my petrol cars, so the higher impurities in petrol exhaust mixing with water must have a bearing, obviously water stagnant in the pipes will have an effect, but this is also dependent on whether you drive short or long trips.
You'll probably find that extractors will have a longer life than perhaps a rear pipe or muffler.
I'd suggest you go to a couple of exhaust places, and pose the question, and tell us what their opinions are.

i find lpg exhausts last longer, hotter gas dries out the exhaust.most exhausts only have a 2 year warranty,i get up to 5-7 years before i have to replace sections,i drive a min. of 30 ks on a start up and hit 80-100ks in 3 minutes, the exhausts dry in less than 5 minutes,a daily driver.

yeah thats what im gona start doing, but my mouth is full of stiches atm so cant really talk :(

i saw a car this morning while waiting for the tram, and it was like as some one posted earlier ^ "a steam train" im guessing it was on gas cos the air was quite cold, and the amount of steam comming out of their... omg... and there was watter dripping from the tip of the exhaust too, like one big drop every 5-8 seconds...

lmao, talk about errosion...
