Heya, I'll soon be getting converted to Gas, courtesy of my good mates at Crescent Motors, and have a few questions for other Duallies that might be on.
1. What Brand and type of Petrol do you use in your tank, for when you aren't on Gas, and how does it run? 2. How often would you run on Petrol , and for how long at a time? 3. How long would you go between Petrol fillups? (leaving the petrol stored in the tank) 4. Is there a difference in how long you can store for example regular Sheel 91, and Shell V-power? (Optimax) Just simple questions, but hopefully someone has some answers! cheers |

ok it is recommended by many gas mechanics that you run your car on petrol in the following ratio.
3tanks gas to 1 tank petrol Petrol i don't know but i don't think it matters. storage time for petrol is basically the less the better for all types. Having said all this my dad had a landau on duel fuel and would run the gas tank dry and then run on petrol to the nearest servo. Never had any problems. He just kept a quarter tank of fuel and every now and then ran the petrol out

I start on petrol and finish on petrol and run LPG the rest of the time. I will also switch to fuel for flat to floor acceleration needs. This usually uses 1/4 a tank to about 3 tanks of LPG. I always leave premium fuel in the tank and fill up when it gets down to 1/2 full. Three months is the most between filling and it havnt had a problem.

I would say running on petrol for one day per week is sufficient. With an SVI system, because the gas controller uses the petrol injection map to calculate gas injection, using 98RON petrol will improve performance.

I just start on petrol every morning for a few mins then flick it to gas and wait another min then start driving.

I was told to run it on petrol once a fortnight, for about 50 k's which is what I do.
I only fill my petrol tank on average once every two months or so, but since I dont use petrol all that often, I spend the bit extra and use the 98 octane. Just dont let your tank get under 1/4 full or you risk pooping your fuel pump......it happened to me and was a bugger to get out.

Hey just had my NF 5.0 converted, this is my 3rd LPG Ford V8 - they love it, and the system automatically starts your car on petrol , then switches to gas, the mech told me i should run it every now and then on petrol to stop the injectors clogging up, but on my previous non-injected cars i just ran straight LPG because petrol was too expensive - with no problems.
the type of fuel is not important ( i too like premium) i say only keep about 1/4 tank petrol just in case otherwise you are dragging dead weight around. happy gas motoring!

oh yeah my mech says thefuel pump apparently can run dry with too little fuel in petrol tank! which could "poop" your pump

Well it picks up all the dirt and muck that has settled on the bottom of the tank, all the time. The Fuel Filter stops it getting into the engine, but over time it can strain the pump, (makes it work harder) which burns it out quicker. I've just had the Fuel Pump replaced recently, so I can't see this happening any time soon. The replaced pump was the factory original. Lasted 12 years

Regards, Dave By the way, are you actually powered by Compressed Natural Gas?? I've seen Sydney Buses running on CNG, but no cars other than demonstrators... and no where to fill them up. I'm curious! |

yeah CNG is the go, you can buy pumps in the usa which you plumb in to your house straight to the gas main, pretty damn cool i reckon coz its soo f**k cheap!

I've bandied this around with a few people before, but it's got to be worth seriously looking into if you have house gas, it's so cheap and better quality i.e. 100% propane as far as i've heard. You need a pump that doesn't pose a heat/ignitiion risk of course.
