Hey all.
Just got my car back from the shop with a new injected gas system (OMVL dream XXI system) I dont know if anyone has much experience with wether the equipment needs much in the way of running in, or if its just not tuned right, but the power is considerably less than petrol and probably less than the old carby system. It does run very smooth, but 1st gear feels like it takes twice as long to wind out. Heres a pic for anyone interested in having a look.. imno gas wizz but what i have experianced with gasd fords is they actually gain a small amount in the lower revrange but lose more in the higher rpm. maby because gas burns quicker then petrol.
if you lost a considerable amount of power then ild say that it wasnt tuned right.

That was fairly true of the older systems, but this system the difference should be minimal or not noticeable at all as others say.

Gotta agree...the Dream vapour injection style setup is the next big thing in gas systems and should be an almost seamless transition with no noticeable differrence..........if you believe the blurb. They are a great system, but if the differrence is THAT noticeable,i suggest it hasn,t been tune correctly.

My EF is on gas and not a major difference in power on petrol, but you do notice it but man you drive 60kms 80% of the time and im not fussed oh now fast i get to 60kms from stationary position.

Gas does use a different ignition profile so if your car is set for petrol then max potential will not be achieved.
Properly set up for gas should lield more power. Just dropping a system in without modifying ignition curves etc could yield loss to no change. Ask installer how ignition curve is reprogrammed with the system they installed. Grumbles

theoretically they say that you shouldn't be losing any power if you've installed a injected gas system and it doesnt need running in. i have a G220 TAXI and im thrilled with it. I put mine on the dyno and it proved me right. I have no lost power.

thats cause most injected lpg systems work with factory computer and its sensors. so it will change the timing to suit the lpg dont need to re graph anything

I lost all of 2kw @ the wheels when i had my LPGI system fit to my EB, back in 2004. That was with a 235k kms old stock engine. You can't tell that difference when driving such a large car as my EB.
I've since built & fit a fresher engine, fit a T5, extractors, larger cold air intake & opened up the exhaust by having a commodore cat fit & the 2 smaller mufflers removed. It's needing a tune atm, but it still hauls a** even tho it does need a tune. It's a bit lean up above 4k rpm. When it's tuned i'm hoping to get a dyno printout done as well to see what it's putting out now. If you can notice the difference between LPG & Petrol with a gas injection setup, take it back & demand a retune for free, as they did a $hithouse job of the tune! Just make sure your ignition system is top notch before you get it tuned. Cheers ToranaGuy

It will be going back for a retune soon.
It basically runs too lean so im wondering if my cam might have something to do with it (although its pretty mild being only a wade 1604). At any rate theyre gonna retune it for free..

hi bug, i had my EF Fairmont converted to LPG injection & im still in the process of tuning it.
it runs fine, heaps of power, smooth idle, but i'm still tweaking the fuel mapping at higher rpm's.....it runs slightly lean under load it's OMVL with adjustable injectors. i cheated, i plugged a vacuum gauge into the map sensor line, set the revs @ 2500 rpm & adjusted the injectors flow for maximum vacuum. hi vacuum = good fuel burn....then i plugged the laptop in & started tinkering ) |

The system will take 1500km to run in. After that, a better tune can be obtained.
The disadvantage of the EFs is that they run batch injection which means that you won't get the full benefits of sequential injection. Regards, Dave
