Hello everyone I bought my first Ford Falcon ute a couple of months ago. 2003, BA with a steel tray. I love it. I'm a landscape gardener, so it's my work and weekend car. However, I'm having a lot of problems with the duel fuel. It's not dedicated gas, so I'm guessing it was installed with after market products. When driving in gas, sometimes the car will just loose all power. Engine, power steering, breaks etc just cuts out/turns off. I have to roll over to the side of the road, lol, do a hand breaky, try and not get into a car accident, switch the gas off and into petrol, and re-start the egnition... After spending $1200 at my local mechanics, and him "claiming" he "fixed the problem" by replacing the Catalytic converter, water pump and Inlet manifold gasket, the problem is still not fixed and I'm back to squareone. I was wondering if anyone could offer me any advice or recommend a good mechanic who actually knows what they're doing. I live in the south east suburbs of melb, but willing to travel for a good mechanic. The LMCT warrantee is void unfortunately... Car too old n too many kms.. Many thanks

If the car runs okay on petrol before, none of the things that were replaced will change a thing re LPG.

I have a duel fuel AU and have done a bit of repair work on the fuel system.
At the tank there is a fuel cut off solenoid, you need to check it visual will do and see if it has a crack in it or if doubful replace it with a new one, only about $30. Check wiring from tank to front of car as water and dirt on connections are your enemy ,they must be clean and making good connection, also the solenoid at the tank has one of it's wires earthed on the chassis on it's travel to the front, make sure this is a good earth. In the engine bay you have another fuel cutoff solenoid check this as it is hot in the engine bay and it is prone to cracking, also i renewed it,again check all wiring connections one loose wire will give you your issue. Sometimes the gas regulator gets gunked up and it is probably better to get a gas guy to clean it if you are scared of doing it yourself. You have already been ripped off for all that other work don't use them again. |

What make is the gas system ? - Have a look on the gas mixer and converter, "Impco" for example.

If an LPG system suddenly stops it could be water in the converter. It ices up and no gas gets through. It then defrosts and starts fine.
Check your water level. Is it dropping? There should be 2 10mm screws on the bottom of the converter. Undo them. If either is wet or damp you have a water leak. Unfortunately they are not cheap to replace
