I was advised for a good clean out of the fuel system in my ED Fairmont, along with other Falcon models, EF EL etc. to add 1L of Methylated Spirits and 1L of Enamel Thinner to a full tank of Premium and by the end of the tank it'll be good as new.

One bloke said he tried it and now has much better response, but I still remain sceptical as to what future side effects it could have.

Metho being 95% Ethanol, does not worry me as cars can run on 100% ethanol.
What do you think about adding Enamel Thinner to a fuel tank?

Acetone is a good cleaner, but I would not put in 1L of thinners. Maybe 100ml at the most.

My personal mix for a suspect fuel system is 1L metho, 300ml Kero and 50ml ATF. Mix well and add about 300ml at each fill till used up.

The metho gets rid of water, the kero cleans and the ATF cleans and lubricates. Works well.

cheers
Scott

i have put about 1L of kero in a fuel tank on two different occasions, put a full bottle of kero and a guestimate of 300 (give or take (this many))mls into a 4 banger carby swift...

a old work mate puts about 5L of two stroke into his au lane once a month..

IMO i felt the kero gave a sharper throttle response for about 2 - 3 days..

OR you could just use brand name injector cleaner (which let's face is a blend of stuff along side metho)

Thanks for the responses.

So a better option would be to use 1L of Metho and 1L of Kerosene in a full tank of premium?

holdung top engine cleaner works. Put in your fuel tank when it is empty and then 30 litres of fuel and drive around until nearly empty again.
Voila cleaner fuel system.

tank of premium + wynns injector clean
tank of premium + Metho

if you want it real clean, the next step is drain the lot and clean the tank and rail manually. Word to the wise DONT MIX TOO MANY CHEMICALS!
