Hi Guys,

I currently have BA running the straight gas set up (factory fitted)

However I will be turbocharging it soon (snort perfomance kit)
I just wanted to know if my fuel economy will be affected?

Because I fitted a turbo to my Holden VT v6 and it actually gave me better fuel economy.

I do understand its going to come down to how I drive the car. It will mostly be city driving and wont be copping a flogging.

thanks in advance.

The price of a turbo kit will take years and years to pay off itself from saving fuel, if you save any at all.

Save the money and use it on something else.

It really depends on how you setup the turbo, if it's small to make good boost rather low in the rev range, as you probably know, you could potentially save fuel. IE like a Saab turbo setup.

My g/f's tx5 turbo 5spd is better on fuel economy than the non turbo 5spd, if you are not right up it all the time. You can get into boost & still get good fuel economy, it's when you want boost very quickly that it likes to drink fuel.

Cheers

I dont plan to save money to pay off the turbo kit. I just wanted to know if it would affect my current economy as in make it worse or better.

I have 3 turbo cars already which all run petrol and in all cases I have seen an increase in fuel economy. I am more keen on finding out if it is the same with gas?

And as said above I am aware if I sink my foot into it it would obviously drink more. (More keen on finding out under normal driving conditons)

thanks

Gas fuel economy is always worse than petrol due to energy contained in the fuel, but a turbo could help bring the engines liters/100kms back in like with petrol consumption, if you don't drop the boot into it.... I'd be surprised if it got worse after being turbo'd on gas. Only way i could see that happening is if you have to make it run richer. Keep the boost reasonable & you shouldn't have to do that.

Some car manufacturers are again realizing the economy that can be gained with a correctly setup turbo, not only the power gain.....

Cheers
